Firebugjen, I understand and share your hesitation (or need for reassurance) about the fridge. I am also yet to try it on my ailing axies... I read many times that it is very good treatment. Like yourself - I prefer not to do anything until I understand what and why I am doing it. 6th August 2005 11:52 cynthia If you can keep the water from going over 22 °C it doesn't have to go in the fridge. If you do put him in the fridge 5-15 °C are ok temps. Cynthia, Thank you for your helpful post; it's the first time I have come across the refrigerated axolotl temperature range. I am curious because food safety website recommends that the safe fridge temperatures the range is anything below 5°C. It seems that what is good for the pet is also good for the colonies of nasties growing in the food. I will test the ACTUAL temperature of my fridge and continue some more research. I may find that I need to adjust the settings. |

They are actually using similar methods on humans that have been hurt badly by putting them in a coma state and chilling the body. Putting the patient Just a little article. I have done the fridge to help heal from a fungus, the fridge coupled with twice daily salt baths made her good as new. Also the colder the water the more oxygen can be disolved in it. That is one reason why warm water is bad for axolotls.

I use a mini-fridge for my axolotls. There's no light so it doesn't bother them and I don't have to worry about people throwing things onto the shelves. Since I live in Las Vegas now, I've also found it helpful because I keep frozen water bottles in it to cool down the tap during water changes and extra bottles of dechlorinated cool water in case I ever need it.
