I'm a brand new axolotl owner - I just got my first one less than a week ago and he's a leucistic named Othniel. It's after Othniel Charles Marsh who was one of the paleontologists involved in the Bone Wars. I started a theme of naming my pets after scientists. I had a dog named Tesla and I have one now named Curie. ^_^;

I named one of mine Luma because she is a golden albino and has the colour scheme of a golden luma from Super Mario Galaxy. Her gills are also very "sharp" looking, like a star. My other one is Kimchi because he is very charismatic and "flavourful", just like the vegetable!

I have Alex and Winston. I've named them both from my favorite books; A clockwork orange and 1984.

I've had them two days I can't stop watching them! They're incredible!

I named one Marvin after the android in the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy because he is leucistic and Marvin is white in the movie. I also love the book and the robot so it was a good name :)

Xolotl is an Aztec god of lightning and death. He leads souls to the afterlife, and can turn into a dog and an axolotl. I wanted to name my salamander something connected with Mexican culture, especially because they're in danger of becoming extinct in the wild.
My first axie is a very dark wild-type, almost entirely black, but when I accidentally took a picture of him with the flash on, I discovered that he has patches of shiny gold skin on his face and in his gills that look a bit like electricity. I could also very easily imagine this sweet, clumsy little salamander helping lost souls through Mictlan.
Xolotl is somewhat difficult to say quickly, so we usually call him Xol (pronounced "Zole.")

Haha - I just have to reply since people constantly scold me for being as mean as to name my Axolotls with those "appalling names"...

I have no idea why I came up with the idea to name my first Axolotl "Engelbert Humperdinck", after the cheesy British geezer singer...

But well - when I got my next male - I decided to continue the theme with cheesy singers so his name is "Julio Iglesias"... "Julio" for short.

My female was named "Barbi Benton" after a 70's - 80's pinup chick who also had a pretty short and less-than-successful singing career :P But she was pretty...
(Barbi unfortunately died yesterday, though.)
