Most people will say only 4, but i think with the proper hides and live plants to help the cycle, probably 6 or 7. As long as they're all the same size. On the axolotl.org website it says that a 4 foot can house 8 but I wouldn't go quite that far.. :) Enjoy. P.S. I have a 3 footer and have 3 atm, but intend to have up to 5 eventually. |

Why try and overload a tank with animals? Only going to cause more harm than good.

I've fit 5 smaller adults into a 55 gallon (which is 4 feet long, but taller than an average 4 foot tank). You will NOT be able to put 6 or 7. They'll be far too crowded, and you'll have serious problems with water quality and nipping at each other.

I had my 2 girls in a 3ft-er + decided they looked like they needed more room! I've got them in a rather sparce looking 4ft-er now, which gives me the option of adding a couple more. I was told 1ft per axie, but I think that's relative. 1 ft is NOT large enough for an adult axie + when my adult boy was seperated fro the girls + tempoaraily housed in a 2ft-er, that was not big enough for permanent use. All 3 of them did fit ok in the 3ft-er, prior to his seperation + it was adequate, but not great. The 4ft-ers would be great for 3 axies (hurry up + grow big, little leucy babies in the kitchen, LoL!) or okay for 4 axies, but I can't see them having enough "me time" if I tried to add any more. Possibly 5 at a push, but not great - especially since they all need at least 1 hide + each hide decreases the amount of floor space to wander over! |
