Hey all- I am having an issue with my axies. I have 4 larvae that I hatched from eggs given to me by a coworker--originally they were from a lab. So far, they have been doing alright--sometimes a bit floaty, but overall eating well and they just got their front legs. I have all 4 in a Kritter Keeper with no aeration or heater. They get natural light (but not much--no direct window exposure). Today I noticed one I thought was dead. He is floating at the top and has a red spot on his belly, by his tail. They are on a diet of fresh-hatched brine shrimp, which I rinse with fresh water before feeding, and I change their water daily, usually after feeding so leftover food does not foul up the water. I have read the care sheets here and am trying so hard to keep these guys alive--what am I missing? I know there is an illness thread, but this one seems to be checked more so here is where I put it. Sorry if that is wrong, I just really need advice/thoughts please.

It sounds like you're doing everything right. Axies are weird little dudes, sometimes they do strange things.

Holy cow! I think I figured it out! Over at axolotl.com they said something this happens when the temperature is too high. I know *I* am hot, so I took the tank temp and it is around 77. Put an ice cube in a baggie and dropped that in--I am hoping that brings it down enough. Could that be a reason for floating? Has that happened to anyone here? I am giving the ice cube a whirl--can't hurt, right? They are still eating like piggies, so :fingers crossed:
