Hello everyone, A bit of bad news and I need some help. My axolotl is injured and I need to know what the best conditions to promote healing are. I Just heard a thud and looked over and my axolotl had jumped out of her tank and splatted on the concrete floor. I immediately scooped her up and put her back in the water. Thank goodness I was sitting a few feet away or she'd be dead for sure. She was only out for a few seconds and I thought she'd be fine. As I was looking at her to make sure she's ok, I saw that she has a large torn flap of skin that is hanging off a gash in her belly, almost like she popped a little when she hit the floor. What are the ideal conditions for healing? should I separate her from the other axolotl & fridge her? any change in feeding? |

as a follow up, she's currently housed with another axie in a large plastic bin and gets 100% water changes every 24-36 hours. I was going to move her to a smaller container to isolate her, and start doing 12-24 hour water changes. Do I need to fridge her or change her feeding habits? Currently she gets live black worms 1-2x/day.

why are you doing 100% water changes? that isn't good for them! you should put her in a small tob of dechlorinated water (which you must change every day) and put it in the fridge while she's having her chill out you should set up a proper tank with a filter and cycly it in the accepted manner.. and for god's sake get one with a lid! |

She is in a small tub of de-chlorinated water, which I change daily, that's the 100% water change I'm talking about. All my axolotls now have lids on them, and I have a 20 gallon long tank that is in the process of cycling lined up for her.

Just in case you haven't done so, do separate her from your other axolotl. Do daily water changes with water that is the same temperature as the water she is sitting in. She doesn't have to go in the fridge, just somewhere that the temperature is nice and cool.

Thank you. I isolated her in her own tub last night and plan to change the water morning and night.
