Default Gill flicks

Is it normal for an axolotl to flick its gills once about every 5-7 seconds? He just got done eating a big meal, so could it just be because he is really full? usually does not flick so much. gills are pretty red, when he flicks, he flicks slow, not rapid... just want to make sure he is alright.

Your video doesn't work, at least not for me!
I assume the gill flicking is normal because mine do it after eating as well however I'm not sure if the frequent flick is something to worry about or not.

Looks normal to me. Lovely gills by the way. Does he have 4 gills on the left side or am I just blind?

He does have 4 gills on the one side. :) and on the other he has 3 plus a nub that never fully grew lol. Glad he seems fine, just more frequent than normal.

I can only guess his age by his size when I bought him. I bought him in early April and he was 4 inches, now (early July) 7 inches... so grows about a inch a month. so assuming 8-10 months? Not sure, have not found a concrete answer on length vs age, but I know that it would vary.

Oh, I was just wondering because the large lovely gills like that I've only really seen on older axolotl. I can't imagine how he'd look in a couple years.
