I tried to use the search function but I couldnt really think of what this would be called... I've noticed over the past couple days that Aarna has been doing this really weird thing where she opens her mouth as wide as it goes, and then either is sucking in a lot of water, or maybe vomiting nothing?? which puffs out her throat, and then spits it out...doing this repeatedly for about 10-20 seconds at a time. I'm concerned because I've never seen her do this before! It looks almost like a full body cough sometimes too...its very hard to describe. I hope you guys can help me with this! Please let me know if I should take her to the vet! Her tank parameters are fine, 0, 0, 20...and i've been icing her several times a day due to the weather. She does have some brown algae in her tank, which I am going to try and get some sand and some live plants to combat that soon. She is in a 10 gallon right now. She measured 6.75 inches last time i measured her, although she could be up to 7 by now. Other than this issue, shes acting normal.

No replies, a bit unusual, hopefully someone can help. Does your axolotl maybe have something stuck in his/her mouth, i have witnessed my axolotl open its mouth fully, almost like a big yawn, but have'nt had the 'body cough'. A lot can be said for water conditions, so if you can get the water conditions perfect for him/her thats at least one thing less to worry about. You said you are having to ice her several times a day, so there is a good chance that the hotter temperatures that you are dealing with may well be the cause, as the hotter the temperature, the faster the axxies metabolism works. Anyway, i hope your axolotl is getting better or recovering, good luck.

Thanks for the reply. She has stopped doing it (that I can tell), so maybe she just had something stuck in her mouth, like you mentioned. I can be a paranoid mom :)
