I recently put my 3 axies into a 30 gal tank, I had to keep them in plastic tubs due to a last min move and they had massive gill loss. Their gills were reduced to small stubs with no feathers. They have been in the big tank for a little over a week now, and everything about them is changing. Their colors are showing more, my wild type has spots that are showing and her gills are growing more and more every day. It seems that both of my girls are growing their gills back, but my golden male seems to be lagging behind. He is more active and looking alot more healthy but his gills are growing very slowly(if they are growing at all). My question I guess is if there is anything I can do to help him along, and will the gills ever grow back out again? I honestly didnt expect them to grow gills again so Im very happy with the progress that they have had, I wish I took before and after photos so you guys can see the difference! Thanks for any advice you are able to give! |

Goldens always seem to be a little weaker, relatively. And sometimes gills just never return to their previous state. As long as the water is clean and they're well-fed, it should be fine.
