So first off I have what I'm now convinced are two male axolotls and I'd love some help on working this out for sure. I'll make a list below to identify each of the pictures I upload. So my second question is I have a healthy and active if not a little shy axolotl,Milo. He is starting to get his dark markings on his face and his toes are showing signs of darkening. Him and Alice are the same age (approx 10 month) and were purchased the same day. His gills are fine and he eats well but has this weird mark on both sides of his face that Alice does not have. It looks what I can only describe as a jelly fish scar ? Id love someone to identify it for me, it doesn't seem to cause him any problems and isn't raised but I'd hate it to be something that I ignore and gets worse ![]() Thank you for reading this ![]() Picture 1 Alice from the side Picture 2 Alice from underneath Picture 3 Alice from above Picture 4 Milo from the side Picture 5 Milo from above Picture 6 Milo under Picture 7 Milo's scar |

I'm not really sure about Alice. The second picture kind of looks female, but the other pictures look male. Milo is definitely a male, but I don't see the scar you're talking about.

I think they both are males, however it's kind of hard to tell. Also I don't see a scar either, maybe if you could take a picture more in focus we could see it.

Hi everyone, I have tried to circle the marks with a terrible drawing app lol but because the camera I'm using is such low grade I'm not sure if you will be able to make things out any better than my other pictures even with squinting and tilting of the screen haha but I hope you can make out what I mean and it is identical on both sides of his face'. Im wondering if hes struggled with a particularly large worm and perhaps stretched something?? Thank you for trying to help and looking I really appreciate it x p.s I apologise in advance for the poor reflections and photo skills |

It's either natural coloring, or you're seeing the jawbones through the skin. It's fairly common with light-colored individuals. With larvae, you can see their brain case, optic nerves, heart beating, internal organs, etc. It doesn't look like anything alarming.

oh my goodness Kaysie that is amazing information! since it is pretty much identical on both sides I bet you are spot on, it could be his jaw, if possible Im even more in love with my axolotls now and will be no doubt geekily looking for internal organs.. perhaps more weird than geek lol ! Thank you for taking the time to look and reply :) |
