Default Axolotl hides

I saw this video on youtube on how to make reptile hides -

I was thinking it would be fun to make them for my axolotls and was wondering if the materials are aquarium safe and if not are ther alternatives. also might the axolotls bite the styrofoam...?

I looked but I couldn't find anything similar to what they did in the video. If you have a link to a thread that does that would be great.

The hide in your video is not safe for aquatics. These are.

Thx.

Hey would the hides in the video be safer if I covered them in concrete before I painted them, used water proof paint and then covered them in sealant???

Why go through all that trouble when you could just use something aquarium-safe to begin with? There are lots of things out there with which to make hides. Expanding foam ("Great Stuff" in the US is fine once it has fully cured.

doubtful. Just make safe ones to start out with. Those are the lizard landscape type hides if I'm not mistaken...safe for dry, humid, or water resistant, but I'd say NOT safe at all submerged.

I believe you can also use FIMO or certain types of SCULPEY clay after its baked. Thats what I plan to do later on.
