may be a silly question, but whats the easiest and least stressful way to do a salt bath? also how much salt is needed, its cuz we think one of axies have got fungy, hard to tell tho cuz its on the back of her gills and cant see them properly.

Hi Lee,

If you are going to salt bath you should do it for 10 minutes once or twice a day, you should use 2-3 teaspoons of aquarium salt or non-iodized table salt in a litre of dechlorinated water in a 2 litre container. Don't leave the axolotl in for more than 10-15 minutes each time, because the salt will start to damage the axolotl's skin and gills.

Clean the container out with water and bi-carb soda before the next bath.

I would recommend using a net to remove the axi from the tank to the container than back again, as it is less stressful for them not to be handled.

Looks like you have caught it early so should fix your axi up quick.

thank you for your replie i was a bit worried about handling my little one incase i hert her also we didnt realise she had fungy till 2 days ago and looks quite big ill post a pic to show you. also how long do you do salt baths for. thanks again.

went to give our baby roxy a salt bath today, got her into the water and relised that the fluffy stuff that i thought was fungy has mysteriosly gone? she looks very happy and is eating very well so prob got it wrong. thanks for all your help and support tho.
