poo bailey has a really sore foot and has done for a few weeks, to the extent that he wont even use it (see topic 'help, i think its redleg' or something. theres some photos there). ive been bathing it with hydrogen peroxide which did seem to help but as soon as it healed almost completely and i stopped using it, it came back. now hes using his foot on the wrong side, as in the side hes meant to be walking on is turned up and hes walking on the other side. im not sure if he has any feeling in this leg now, he did have before this relapse but what do you guys suggest i do? is amputation an option if i took him to a vet?
thanks

Amy - Are you salt bathing him? I would think salt baths twice a day and sticking him in the fridge would help it heal.

Mmm, the salt baths and refrigeration are the best thing. I would not amputate unless I had a bloody good pain killer for him - Imagine! The topic you mention, unless I'm thinking of the wrong one, resolved as being not red leg. Amy, I reckon do the salt and fridge cycle.

well, i put him in a bowl for about a week with some methylene blue and that seemed to help. hes using it but hes still using the wrong side and it wont go normal again. might this be caused by the scar tissue do you think?

my boy phil got bitten as a youngster, sounds like the same sort of thing.
He was bitten at the elbow joint, and it sort of split the skin. His leg has healed but the scar tissue restricts the amount of movement he has.
I guess it's just one of those things he'll have to live with.

Amy, I think you will find salt baths to be a much more effective treatment for axies. I used to use chemicals before finding this site, and after switching to salt baths I find most problems are cleared up within a few days. Its really easy, stress free for axies, and much cheaper than buying all those chemicals.
