Default Really need advice about my axolotl. is he sick?
It's been hard for me finding something to actually feed my axolotl. Actually i think it's an Ambystoma Vasci, which is more likely to become a salamander. Now it's loosing it's gills. I don't know whether this is normal or not, but the gills have become smaller and now they're almost gone.
Thing is, it's still too young for it to loose its gills, it's only about 12 cm / 4 inches long. Now it's been about four days since he started loosing them and now they're almost completely gone! Plus he's been spending a lot of time still, in a vertical position, sticking the tip of his head outside of the water.

What is the best food to feed it now and when it becomes a salamander?
About the gills, does anyone know what could it be? Should i worry?

sounds like chemistry problems with your water...

did you test your water parameters?

can you post a picture of the animal?
