Not a good day... My axolotl Marley seems to have suffered a prolapsed cloaca... (could someone confirm this from the photo below??) He has been to the vet, lovely bloke, actually keeps axolotls himself. But this was a new one on him... He'd never seen a prolapse before? He has advised that i keep him in the fridge overnight, see if the prolapse reduces and retracts itself.. does this actually happen? Marley seems active enough despite the prolapse... Are prolapses supposed to be white? I'm sorry i cant take a better picture, im trying to avoid handling him too much after a lengthy handling session at the vet. Apparently the cause of the prolapse was constipation, as when the vet was trying to manually replace the prolapse with a cotton bud and ky jelly, a lot of poo came out. I have been told that if marley lives, i need to change his diet, as bloodworm isn't suitable for an axolotl his size. So what "live foods" would you guys reccommend. Has anyone come accross a prolapse "fixing" itself in the fridge before? I'm really down at the minute as i feel that this is my fault for over feeding it or feeding it the wrong food. Does anyone have any more advice as to what i can do with him? Ive got some antibiotics for him to start tomorrow (the vet has given him one dose....) Someone must be able to help... (sorry about the poor order of questions, im stressed and just typing things as they come into my head....) |
