My axolotl toothless just died this morning and I am unsure of the cause. A few days ago he stopped eating and then I noticed he started floating, toothless cloaca looked a little swollen also. When I looked it up it seemed to mean toothless was constipated, I tried feeding toothless a pea/broccoli but toothless refused. I tried fridging toothless starting yesterday keeping an eye on the temperature, I checked on toothless about 9am and toothless was fine and swimming. (No signs of poo or anything though) I checked on toothless around 12pm and noticed toothless had died. =( What caused his death? Could he have been constipated that bad? His skin and gills shown no sign of an infection and I made sure that water wasn't too cold while he was in the fridge. |

What kind of substrate did you have Toothless on? Also, why would you try feeding broccoli and peas? This works for goldfish but axolotls are carnivores- - an earthworm may have been a better choice.

Bare bottom tank, no substrate. I read it here Why is my axolotl floating? « Aquarium Oddities when I was looking up axolotls and floating. His diet was earthworms anyway which he refused to eat for the past few days. |
