Default Update on our sick Yin and Yang

I'm sorry that I haven't been abe to find the time to post recently, but thought that you'd be interested to know how we've gone on with our two sick axies.

We took them to a vet listed on this site, Clayton Knight at Deception Bay, Queensland.

He gave us good advice, and one of the axies an antibiotic injection.

Thanks to Kaysie for her excellent post/stickie about salt baths too.

I can't remember now how long we've been going throught the salt bath rituals now, but we ended up taking our axies on holiday with us over a month ago so we could continue to look after them.

They are looking great now, feeding well, and their filaments are growing back. The first time Yin has had filaments since we brought her home.

I have to tell you how proud I am of my 12 year old son. He's been diligent in his attention to his 'babies', and hasn't complained at all about the time he spends looking after them.

We're now considering asking a local member who breeds axies if he'd be willing to sell us (maybe) another three babies. Our tank is large enough to support seven, but would be more comfortable with five.

I think the 'rearing and caring' of baby axies would be an excellent way of showing my son the responsibility that human babies brings.

I regret (very much) that we bought our axies from a pet shop. I thought that I had done my research so well, but it turned out that I had failed at the first stage by not realising that our two axies might have come from different breeders.

I'm so glad that we took them to the vet as soon as we thought there was something wrong, and I'm thankful that the vet's comment that they might not survive has turned out to be wrong.
