Congratulations! I would say don't try to raise too many. Have you found a supplier for live blackworms yet?

Good luck!

Don´trow the eggs like that. They need space. The eggs that are lying bellow will die.

Thank you Jennifer Macke you always have been a great deal of help Click the image to open in full size.

I haven't found any supplier for blackworms as of yet, I was hoping that I could use frozen blood worms or keep them on brineshrimp that im raising in many different tanks . this is the 1st time I have hatch any so im just learning as I go .

In that picture with all the eggs clumped together I had the pump off , it is a very old pump so it will move the eggs around and keep them from sticking to eachother but wont cause any to be injured or break apart , I new they would go bad if not oxygenated or kept from clumping together..
my main goal is the 1st two pictures , there are only 27 in that batch all the other eggs are just bonuses and I just may let them be = kill before hatching , I dont know what ill do with another 50 or more babies .
thanks

You should be fine feeding them freshly hatched brine shrimp and later switching them to bloodworms and pellets.

lisa > the babys in the picture hatched in late january so im guessing they are about 3 weeks old, I only hatched 28 out of the 1st laying , I left the parents in the same tank and when I notices some missing I removed the eggs to their own tank .. have only lost one somehow , im thinking it got stuck in the net when i was doing a water change after a feeding ..
the other eggs were from the samme batch of axolotls that I gave to a friend , she had atleast 50 , maybe pushing 75 hatchlings , and the mother layed twice , so I went ahead and took the unwanted eggs .. but im guessing the dark eggs mother must have had 150 eggs or more in 2 layings .

Thanks Jake I was hoping I could just stick with brineshrimp or mashed up frozen bloodworms intill I can get them to eat pellets . that make me feel better that you reasure me .. thank all.

What do you mean by "brineshrimp that im raising in many different tanks"? Newly-hatched brine shrimp, or adult brine shrimp?

Jennifer > im hatching 2 teaspoons of brineshrimp in a gallon of water once a week, taking out the crysts and hatched eggs and using that as food 2 times a day with water changes everytime they feed. IN another tank im growing brineshrimp just to have sea monkeys to look at and have fun with, ill use them as food for my fish and bigger babies maybe after I raise them up to juveniles . "that's is just something that iv'e always wanted to do " for the feedings of the babies, they get freshly hatched brineshrimp and are getting pink bellys after every feeding .
im hoping by raising some to a bigger size than freshly hatched that later on down the road I can feed them medium size brineshrimp occasionally and then get them started on pellets, frozen worms ..ect
so when I say many tanks, i really only mean 2 = 1 freshly hatched for food, and #2 having fun with sea monkeys ..
I do understand your consern and appreciate your advise ..
thank you.

Since Drew is in the US, he is unlikely to find tubifex, but blackworms are available. Blackworms are almost a "guarantee of success" when raising caudate larvae, I'd encourage you to scour your local petshops and try to find them (or mail order them). You can give a try with frozen bloodworms or pellets, but you'll have a lot more clean-up to do in order to prevent fouling of the tank/container.

Thanks for the clarification on the brine shrimp, you have just the right thing. That explains why your larvae look so healthy!

Thanks Jennifer I haven't seen any blackworms in lfs in forever, I remember having to rinse them and trying to get the grey dead ones out, and they stink if not kept just the right way .. do they ship well ? do you still have to keep them in the refridge ? ill look more into where I can get some .. right now im just trying what I know that should work and im really excited that it is working .. I figure that the hard part is through the canabalism stage and getting them off live foods.. thank you for all you guidence ..
