My batch laid on Feb 5, 2012 is on the third day of hatching and we have 147 hatched babies so far. The mother is a wildtype and the father is a golden albino. Some of the axie babies are dark and some are a tan color....what color will they grow to be? Day 3 of hatching axolotls - YouTube ![]() ![]() ![]()

The dark ones are wildtype. The pale ones are probably leucistic.

Ok thanks...I was unsure because I thought leucistic babies had to have dark eyes?

You know, I did notice that. I had originally thought they might be some weird melanoid. Maybe melanoid leucistics? It'll be fun to wait and see.

If the father is golden albino I would say the lighter ones are probably the same, they look very much like what my baby golden albinos looked like when my wild and golden albino mated good luck

I've never raised albino babies, so I'll take Zoe's word for it!

I'd say golden albino... Goldens laid by a dark coloured female seem to look darker when hatched, but you can already see the shiny eye ring in some of the photos, so not melanoid. Also I can see some leucistic and wildtypes there... Good mix :)

There has been an almost identical thread on the German axolotl forum and as stated above it appears that albinos and golden albinos from dark coloured mother start off dark and lighten with time. Might need to stick translator on the link below. Hilfe bei Farb- und Augenerkennung. - Axolotl Diskussionsboard - Axolotlforum von www.axolotl-online.de Certainly new to me! Let us know how they develop. Regards Neil |
