Your axolotl looks nice, but the size of your gravel is troublesome. This is the perfect size to cause impaction. I HIGHLY suggest you change it.

Thanks for the responses.
Since the photo was taken (and I started reading on this site ) I have pretty much covered the gravel with flat river stones.

You'd be amazed at how well they can snuffle around under things. Additionally, their poo will settle down in the cracks and make that amazingly difficult to clean.
