Default The Newest member of the family & Hubby's first Axie!

My husband, a devout fish person, fell in love with Hoo-Dee-Nee and was brought around to these wonderful critters watching her grow. He's been watching over my shoulder while I've been browsing the Forums and has fallen for the Olive coloured Axies.

So today after much searching we finally found "The ONE!"
He's an aquarium store purchase. He was kept on small pebbles of a very dangerous size but he doesn't seem to have swallowed any or not enough to deform his belly at least but we will have to wait and see how he goes over the next few weeks. He's a little underweight but that will be fixed up fairly quickly while he's in quarantine and his gills are a bit on the short side but otherwise he looks nice and healthy.

He is Beautiful I have to admit and will be known as Albie although his full name is Albicant Scheisse (apologies to our German speaking friends)
Albicant means Shining Bronze Colour which is rather fitting really and I am NOT translating the 2nd part and it's the first and last time I shall be posting his full name. lol

OK here is our ahhh I mean His beautiful Albicant

His body and his Black Spot it looks like a raised lump in the pic but it's not I assure you.

Such a shiny tail, looking very silver through the side of his plastic tub though.

I will grab some better side on pics when he's settled in his Quarantine tank.

Oh an while I'm here This is Lemon-ee S/He is the sibling of Hoo-Dee and the gang and the last of the babies I had for sale so I put him/her in with the others since it's lighter than Leopard but still has the pattern, unlike Fish.
I'm hoping it's a She so I can breed it to Leopard and see if they breed true or at least hopefully get a clearer idea of just what gene's they carry.

This is Leopard for comparisons sake.

Albicant is gorgeous! I'm a little concerned about the black spot, but if I can have random spots maybe axies can too.

Random Spots of colour are quite common and nothing to worry about as longs as they are just pigment and not raised lumps. I've got A wild with white and green patches on his head and body. That one is just pigment so I'm not worried about it. I'd be concerned if it was a jet black spot on an albino but not on an olive.

Albie has settled into his new home nicely now. He's a friendly little critter coming up to the glass when you walk near the tank.
Feeding didn't go so well his first night here with him vomiting up his worms but so far so good with todays worm and it seems he's eaten a few of the pellets I left in the tank last night so he's heading in the right direction.

Still no signs of impaction or of him having any pebbles in his belly which is pleasing.

I'll try and get a few more pics later tonight but there's no light on his tank so getting reasonable shots is proving to be difficult.

Gosh I love those olives too! completely agree with your hubbies taste. And I'm not biased... I've only had Inca for six months! haha

Where abouts did you get him from?

LOL they are a beautiful morph.
This little guy came from Gosnells Pond and Aquarium (Perth) which was, I think, the 8th store we'd visited around the city that day finally found the one he wanted

Little update.
Albie is doing well and almost ready to go into the big tank with his soon to be 'friends'. Quarantine is almost done and he's eating pretty well.

He's put on some weight now, still not at healthy weight but he's certainly looking better than he did. He'd only eat worms the first week but we've slowly managed to get him to happily eat Newt and salamander bites and are now throwing in some of our regular axie pellets with them and he's taking the odd one so that's good. I 'think' he though they axie pellets were rocks to start with. He'd give it a munch then spit it out the salamander bites are smaller and softer and he was much happier to eat them to start with.

Gills are very slowly regrowing so I'm starting to wonder if he will just be a short gilled axie.
