I recently upgraded all of my tanks over winter break before going back to college. I added lots of plants and extra decorations/hides for my tanks. Particularly in my axie/andersoni tank. I added another level, and while I haven't replanted all of the plants yet (quite a task, considering the water is about 45 degrees and freezes my arm) I do have quite a few in. While you can't see the entire layout, as the decorations and large plants block the front of the tank, there are more plants and hides around. My little fatties really seem to enjoy this layout, as they climb all over the rocks and second level, as well as float up and shove their faces into the taller plants to pretend they're hiding. I have more floaters to add after the bottom plants are sufficiently rooted and the axies stop kicking them around. Also, note that the gravel tanks are not axie tanks, but fish or frog tanks. |

I don't know how you fit everything in the dorm room and still have space to study at a desk. I have three tanks in a small one bedroom flat and am organising to use a book case to stack two of them atm - as I have just rearranged a tank for my gold fish because I found out the tank i had three in was only big enough for one. So I using the shelves of the book case to stack the tanks. |

Haha, I actually have a single. No roommates for me! I used to have two, but moved out. I got more tanks afterwards... I've found that chrome shelving is very useful. Also, I lofted my bed just so I could have room for my original 2 tanks, then quickly found that it wasn't that hard to fit more. |

Wow, I'm impressed! I lived in a dorm a year ago and I know how tight space can be. It's a wonder that you have any space to do homework :P hehe Btw, what is that tubing that you have around your Andersoni tank?

By around, I don't think you mean the airline tubing. The black tubing is irrigation pipe/pvc pipe that I put together and glued a mat on top of in order to make a second level for my curious adventurers. It adds an extra 24 inches of floorspace to the tank.

Doh, I meant inside the tank. Very clever :) I wasn't sure if it was some crazy water filtering system or something :P

Woah... That is crazy! I know others mentioned the study aspect, but WHERE do you study?! If the little creatures weren't so adorable I would think you were insane. But as it is, it is quite understandable.

Haha, I don't recall ever using my desk to actually study at. I either sit on my beanbag or a papasan chair in my room, or just go to the library. Most of my work as an English major is reading, then writing essays. Not much to really "study" with the books out, per se. Which I'm glad of. Means more room for my critters.

I'm pretty sure that their allowing aquatic animals was simply supposed to be a fish in a bowl. But then I asked about frogs. They said yes... Then I got a larger tank. Then axolotls. By the time they knew about it, I think they decided it was ok. Now see what they've done! I just took down two tanks today as my juvie axies are now big enough for the 55 - whew! And I was having problems with my fish tank, so some of my fish became axie snacks between their regular feedings, while others are hanging out with my floating frogs. Now I have a 5 gal betta tank, a singular fire belly newt in a 5gal, a twenty with frogs and cory cats, and my lovely 55 with all my axie darlings. I'm now trying to find an easy way to clean up my two other tanks so they don't smell. That's a bit difficult!

Haha, I think my RA's had minor heart attacks after they realized what they'd done by not giving me a limit on tanks. But it's all cool. I actually have to have little "aquarium shows" where groups of people come into my room to gape at them. Actually just had a maintenance guy come to fix my door a few minutes ago and he got distracted by the aquariums. He was asking me all about my caudates!

| One winter my lock on my flat had seized up, locking me out. The maintenance man had to break in (2nd story in an old Victorian house), and the only accessible window was the one into my salamander room, which was open to keep the room cold. I was raising something like 300 axie larvae, plus I had 6 or 8 other species. He came down the stairs and opened the door and asked me what the hell those things were, and then I had to give him a tour of both the cold and the warm herp rooms.

I was asked once to help a friend of a friend set up multiple tanks in a small space, turned out to be a warehouse that was to be a shop. Honestly.... your dorm is more impressive. I mean sure he had loads of tanks but this is clear devotion. Hats off and a bravo me thinks. And to think I have a room of what looks like equal size if not bigger and I am struggling to fit any where near that volume. another Bravo on the house |

Impressive! Unfortunately one of those tanks would not be allowed where I am... the rest would be ok though :)
