So I've had them for about 3-4 days now. Doing great. I think they were nibbling on each other's legs during the shipping process but thankfully they grow back ha. Wild type and leucistic. My first leucistic; I must say I'm enthralled by it ha. They are just over 2 inches. Should I separate them until they are a tad bigger? I still see them occasionally mistake each other for food but so far no injuries. Just axie love nibbles? haha. What's everyone's advice? Thinking those "breeder" nets they sell at pet stores would be ideal or just find a piece of mesh to divide. Anyway, just wanted to show them off lol. The leucistic has a regular eye and a tiny eye. It's already my favorite lol. It's like a cartoon version of an axolotl. I've named the leucistic "Gospel" and the wild type "Molasses" Sorry for the blurry cell phone pics |

The breeder I got my axolotls online told me to keep axolotls apart until they are one year old. So I kept a mesh divider in the tank so that they could still see each other n stuff. After my first couple of axolotls though, I would just keep them separate until their five inches long and see how well they can handle being with each other. I would just make sure to feed them very well before putting them together. |

thanks for the suggestion! Yeah I'll be moving them into an actual tank soon and then I'll be trying to find some mesh to divide them in the middle.

Took some better pictures. The leucistic is developing dark spots all over him so I can't wait to see what his coloring is like. They are awesome. I'm glad I have two and not just one lol. The wild type has doubled in size in a matter of 2-3 weeks while the leucistic has only slightly grown. He is trying to reheal some eaten limbs from before I got them so maybe that's why it isn't growing as fast.

My first two were that small when i got them and actually seemed quite depressed when i separated them so i put them in together after a week or so and have had no problem...might be that i got lucky with them but theres been no fighting or biting off of limbs |

Yeah mine seem to do pretty good with each other so far. I had worries but I think they'll be fine with each other since there's plenty of space to get away from each other. Molasses (Wild type) is growing like a weed, he eats so much I have to make sure gospel (leucistic) gets his share because he's smaller lol.

you could hand feed them to make sure both are getting fed...three of mine just eat from my fingers but the other will actually come on to my hand to eat which i love

Yeah I plan to hand feed them when I switch to feeding them earthworms instead of bloodworms. It's fun watching them go into kill mode, and somehow they always know when I'm about to put some bloodworms in lol.

So glad to see they're doing well and growing fast! I'm interested to see how gospel turns out since you've mentioned that he's already showing spots! His mom has some light freckling on her face and that's it... they didn't even show up until she was about 4-5 inches. Also, I want to see how the crazy eyes turn out

Beware of your substrate. Bare bottom tanks are usually recommended for axolotls under 4-5 inches. Known for frequently ingesting substrate, sand ingested by an adult is not as worrisome as sand ingested by a small juvenile. The ratio of sand grain to intestine size is less like to cause impaction in an adult than with a small lotl with very small intestinal tracts. I would swap to bare bottom for safety for the next few months.

thanks for the concern, I use a feeding jar though so they don't really ingest sand ever. when they're big enough for earthworms I'll just hand feed so they should never ingest sand after that unless the occasional misfire happens ha. |

Heeey just an update. They are doing great and adjusting to each other better. I've even caught them laying on each other already lol. So I think they'll get a long great in the future. They are eating machines and have grown so much so fast. I would estimate they are about 3-3.5 inches long already! I will be switching their food from bloodworms to earthworm slices very soon. Hopefully they will love them as much as the bloodworms. Never seen an axolotl turn down a good earthworm though ha. I included a tank picture. I haven't bothered decorating it yet as I haven't had the time (also not sure what direction I want to go in. I want live plants but might also combine silk fake plants for a full look. So far they have a cup cave to dwell in and also I left my feeding jar in the tank in picture. They don't seem to mind ha. I do have some pothos growing above water with roots growing down in the water. They're growing well and the roots are about 3-5 inches long now. It will be cool when they reach the bottom sand. Sorry for the bad picture quality. Camera phone isn't the best lol.. |

Any chance you could post a face pic of Gospel? I'd love to see how the eye's are looking.
