Hi All,

For any of you interested in axolotl egg development, check out this site. It has up-close photographs of all stages of development (really cool stuff): Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) - Embryonic developmental stages

Any albino or coppers hatched for me yet?
This is the enclosure I am cycling for them.
Let me know what you think

We won't have any coppers, but we have lots of wildtype and leucistic hatched (still waiting on the golden albino and leucistic to hatch). Tank looks great:) How large is it? Once full size, the axies should have about 10 gallons each (we have 4 in a 46 gallon for ex.)

Will keep you updated on their progress. We've never raised axies from this size before, so we're guessing that it will be a couple of months before they're off live food (eating pellets) and hardy enough to ship. We'll see!

Thanks! It's a 28 but the sump area takes up alot of space...however it has 2 levels so that increases the footprint. What do the hatchlings eat before pellets? I am in RI so when they are ready I might be able to pick them up. But I would def wait for the coppers to hatch.

Sorry I haven't been able to post sooner, I kept trying to get on the site on my phone but my phone wouldn't load the page.

All of the eggs went bad and none morphed past the stage they were when I got them from you.

They were kept in 68*F. I had split them into two groups upon getting them, removed all the clearly bad eggs, and didn't disturb them.

Hi Jake, Babies eat live food such as brine shrimp, so you'd need to set up a brine shrimp hatchery. You're welcome to grab some babies and raise them if you're willing to set up the live food (you'd want to start them off in a container rather than the tank). We don't have any coppers unfortunately, just wild type and leucistic, so if you're just interested in coppers, you'll have to try someone else.

Thanks!

Hi Jenste. That is totally bizarre. What do you mean by went bad? They all went cloudy? That sucks. I wonder if you just got a bad batch by luck of the draw. We have a couple of eggs that we kept and they're all on different paces. We have some that are further developed and some that are little more than beans.

As I offered earlier, since you're so close, you are more than welcome to stop by and pick up some babies (you can pick out the ones you want). These guys are just hatched over the last week or so (and healthy!). Shoot me an email if you're interested. It's half wild type/ half leucistic.

Do you still have wild-type juvies? If so, I would love some. However, I live in North Dakota, and it might be too cold to ship. :/

Thanks Zaria
Yes they went cloudy pretty much all overnight. Might just have been a poor group or just around a bad egg too long that it spread.

I'd love to come grab some little ones but don't think I'd be able to drive the way up (about 75 miles) there anytime soon due to work and such around here. Thank you for the offer. Maybe if things clear up in a week or two I could make a time to meet with you?

So many goldens! So far I only have 3 goldens out of 10 that hatched. Your babies look very good.

@Jenste. Maybe that train trip was rougher than I thought! Shoot me an email in a couple of weeks if you want to pick some up.

@taylorw. We have a ton of wildtype babies right now...so we will be looking for homes once they get a little bit bigger. If you're interested I'm happy to write down your name and be in touch once these guys are a little bit bigger (stronger) and off live food.

@jason and @ anette. Glad to hear they're doing so well. We just had our first goldens hatch today of the few that we kept! It's been fun to compare them with the wildtype babies.

@EvilGizmo. As of yet, no more eggs. Hard to say whether they'll decide to lay more. If they do though, we will be looking for homes again and I will be sure to post. Thanks!

I counted about a half dozen or so dark babies - - what color will they be with golden albino and leucistic parents? (axolotl genetics baffle me!)
