- Our two cynops pyrrhogaster newts are pretty old! We were given them by friends who moved from PA to Hawaii and couldn't import them into the state. Our friend was given our biggest newt (a female) in 1979 by a girlfriend. He later purchased a male companion in 1986 from a California petshop. We don't know how old they are, but our biggest newt is at least over 30!
