Hi, my name is Stacey and I'm planning to get my 3 kids axolotls for Christmas. Still trying to figure out how to set up the tank (from me and their dad) and have the pets "appear" Christmas morning, but Santa may have to dispatch an elf for an early delivery since they are alive not toys.

I read everywhere NOT to use aquarium gravel and not to put them together until March when they turn a year so we were going to divide a 15 gal. tank temporarily so they don't cannabalize each other because the shipper keeps them all seperate so they behave as adults and don't pick up bad behavior.

In your experience can 3 be kept or should they be in even numbers? I wanted to use aquarium sand as substrate, as it said it is not toxic and will pass. I also always put plants in my aquariums to take up nitites, but I don't know if that is safe, can you make some suggestions? Thanks.

did u get lthe last message about me losing one of my newts?

Bad news, turned the air up on accident when we were on a mini vaction. it gave the newts heat stress cause the door to there room was closed. i lost one of my females. i was very pissed and sad. at least she wasn't one of my originals or a leucistic. it sucks bad though.

Thats sucks about your axies. Mainly just diet questions and stuff like that. I have kept all kinds of salamanders and newts. just never axies. u should send me some more pics if u got them. if u needed another tank i am always willing to donate. i have like 5 billion tanks in a out building. i have been collecting them since i was 12. pretty much n e size 75g and below.
