Daphnia are also great because you don't need to worry about them contaminating the babies water so much as bbs, they are fresh water so will stay alive until all gobbled up ..lol x

I bought a starter culture of daphnia off ebay. Put them in 2 plastic tubs on my kitchen windowsill and they are breeding like crazy, I just suck out some babies and chuck them in the hatchlings containers. They only need algae to survive, I went and raided some lovely green, slimy water out of a plastic tub in my garden lol. I have 2 plastic tubs of water stored outside in a sunny spot (when we get sun of course!) growing lovely and green, and everytime the daphnia water starts looking clearer I pour the algae water in ... pretty simple. I think another useful bit of advice is to split your daphnia into 2 tubs in case 1 crashes. Mine are all in 1 small glass tank now, if it crashes I will have to start again. If you can't get any algae water I've heard of people using dirty tank water, you can also feed them on yeast but it seems to make the water pretty gross so personally I wouldn't use yeast unless really stuck :)
