    Hey there,

How have you been? I saw you posted the other day. I've been crazy busy w/ the boys, baseball, more and more animals, and a lot of sadness with losses of family and friends. So, the board hasn't been on my list of priorities.

How's your health? Did the newts survive? I had a bad bunch of losses, but still have about a dozen of my brood - gave some away, had a couple of escapes - so sad. The momma got out of a temp. enclosure and it kind of hit me hard!

Hope all is well w/ you and your family,
    Dana

Ahhh, so sorry to hear of the continued health issues. Keep your eye on the prize and this, too, shall pass. Prayers with you.

Thanks for the tips on the worms. I lost the end of my blackworms awhile back - most were eaten. I lost my white worms to heat, I think. I can reorder those from Dawn. The blacks were on special for us members: $19.95 + a container, not sure of the amount, but it was plenty and lasted a long time. Don't see the ad anymore. Will try your connection.

    Be well,
    Dana

Do you have some blackworms? Where did you get them as I don't see the ad that used to be here.

How do you feed earthworms? Are these big earthworms like my kids bring in? Not sure I could dice them up, ugh. Male adult doesn't seem to be eating - moved him, don't think it's a space issue. Checking the water again later as he's still terrestrial.

Mine don't seem ready for water, either. The ill-fated tank was lined with paper towels. Figure that if I'd stuck with your substrate, they'd have had a better chance with the heater causing the dessication. I'm "off" now, however, in that I knew Newty hatched in mid-March, morphed towards the end of June, and I was trying to see if I could guess about his return to the water. Now, it's a total guessing game as I have no idea now who's even the oldest of my 50 juveniles. I'm not sure when you even know they're ready for a return to the water???? Glad you're feeling OK.

Thats too bad. All you can do is learn from the experience as painful as it is. My orientalis are nowhere near return to water IMO. I am keeping them terrestrial till my guess is July-Oct. Mine look really small comparably to some other cynops hatch around the same time. If you want to to try cynops cyranus let me know.

Everyone is doing well healthwise. Wish you the best!

How's it going? I've been in a funk over a tragedy that hit my small (first 4) tank. We had that freaky cold spell and needed the heat - never use it here. It dried out the little tank (critter keeper type) and killed Newty and his 3 brothers. I'm sick over it - switched four others into the tank for the boys' sake, but am still mortified. All else is good.

Hope you and yours are all doing well,
    Dana

The larvae are still growing. I got seven to hatch and all of them are doing well. I am glad to here your morphs are doing well. I am positive they are eating the soprings and fruitflies. Just a tip if any of your morphs lag in growth seperate them into their own enclosure to ensure they are not out competed for food. I learned that the hard way. In another month or two I will send you some hydei FF. They are a bit larger prey...Best of luck and keep in touch. I am interested in how you morphs do...

How are the larvae doing? Still growing? Can you believe I have about 25 morphs and no casualties (yet, hoping never)???? They must be eating the springs and FFs. I've got those cultures alive and well and I have you to thank for them.

    Rick,

Any signs of life in the eggs? Any growth? If so, can you make a guess as to which technique of shipping worked best? I'm supposed to send a batch out to another member on Tues, but wanted to see how yours were faring.

FF here are starting to hatch. I put about 30 in last night w/ the morphs. I can't be sure, but I don't think these little guys have eaten yet. I keep putting in the springtails, so it's possible they are, but also next to impossible to be sure as I've yet to see them do anything but turn away from the food. It's getting disheartening, but I remember what Jen told you about it taking over a month in some cases. When I got my pair of adults (maybe they were juveniles? were terrestrial but could swim) the male didn't eat for over a month, but he was much larger than these morphs...
