I'm not sure why science found it necessary to change the name of M. alpestris to I. alpestris,
but I've figured out why another species had its name changed. From the Bishop book I read (Handbook of Salamanders), I've deduced that because a noted ex-felon rap singer (and current reality TV star) named himself after a salamander (i.e. Pseudotriton flavissimus flavissimus), the academic amphibian world was sufficiently horrified to rename the species Pseudotriton montanus.

Ah yes, the ol' Tyranosaurus alpestris, er... Dawn, you never fail to make me laugh!

Thanks for the chuckle Dawn. The name comes from the Latin for yellow - flavus and issimus which means very much.

Maybe the rapper (never heard of him) got a bad case of jaundice? Perhaps the salamander changed it’s colour and moved to the mountains. Who knows…

His name is Flavor Flav (pronounced Flavi Flav) (if you watch his show you learn he actually hates it if you spell his name 'Flavi') ... (not that I watch) He was in the group "Public Enemy." I'm not into rap, but I do like my reality TV... (so OK, I do watch).

Someone buy that poor guy a watch.
