I'm back!

Well it has been a long time since i've been on this forums properly. Occasionally I would still come here to check stuff though .

Anyway I just wanted to show off my Axolotl again and exlpain some things. Not so long after I stopped coming to these forums, I sort of lost interest in my Axolotl. More to point I wasn't cleaning her tank as much as I should and even fed her less. However, this was due to personal reasons and I needed to sort my head out. Not so long after this, I wanted to become more involved with her but it didn't feel the same as it used to. Also at this time, we were having a major clean up in my room so I decided to stick my two african dwarf frogs in the her tank for a while. I noticed that the Axolotl didn't seem to care about the frogs and most of the time they would literally be in front of her face. But, one day I decided to peep into the tank and I saw this -


In all honesty I didn't know what to do. I was that shocked and hesitant to even try to pull the frog out, so I left it...

I took out the other frog, set up the 1 gallon tank they were in and now she is safe again
Needless to say, I don't have the same feeling as I used too, but there is still something there. I know I always wanted more of a terrestial newt\salamander so this could of been a base leading to no motivation for my Axolotl. However though, I cleaned her tank the other day and started to take some pictures of her. Oh and by the way, I know them little pebbles can be a threat so I'll take them.

Also I'm wondering if there is anyone in the Birminham\Solihull area that would be willing to trade something more terrestial for her. I would just buy another tank etc for another species but sadly no room. Thanks for reading people.

I am not here to be judgemental but i feel that to some people, axolotls are just 'pets' or an animal, perhaps expendable. However, to them, humans are their everything. They are completely reliant on humans to feed and care for them. Their lives are really literally in our hands.

I understand sometimes personal problems can make throw a spanner in the works and can affect how we perceive things but i still feel pet ownership is a lifelong commitment that cannot be taken lightly. Even though your interest in your axie have diminished, i would still recommend providing the very basic care required until you can rehome it. You seem to have knowledge in axie care as evident by the beautiful setup and i hope you extend that, to removing the pebbles and avoid mixing species in future.

If the current circumstance makes it challenging for you to have a pet, perhaps you might like to hold that thought for the time being until you are certain you can love and care for your new pet. Exchanging or trading for another terrestrial salamander isn't really going to solve the problem. They have specific care requirements and after the initial 'enthusiastic' phase, will still require ongoing maintenance and care. It is fairer to yourself and the pet when things are more settled.

Hi there,
I can understand where you are coming from. It's not like I don't want her or anything like that, I meant with another species such as some Chinese fire-bellies, I feel as though I could interact with them more. It might seem stupid, but I feel more more interested in feeding species out of the water and one of main interestes would be scaping their tank. I also know I would be able to handle a male and a female, in which I would be interested to breed.

I don't want people judging me on here for what I have done. The important thing is that she is alive and kicking and I havn't 'lost' all interest in her.

I don't want you to think I am being judgemental or trying to preach or anything like that - it's good that you're considering your axie's wellbeing and and trying to get her rehomed.

One thing I would consider though, is that people may not be particularly inclined to "swap" a pet with someone who has just recently gone through a period of waining interest in the species they keep presently - a lot of people on here rightly view their animals like their babies and so wouldn't want to put them at any risk of their wellbeing.

As I said, I honestly don't mean that in a snide or b**chy way and hope it doesn't come off that way.

Perhaps it may be a good idea to first try and rehome your axie with someone who can give her the time and attention she deserves and then afterwards, consider taking on another pet if you feel this is what you want to do.

In what way are they not in good condition? They seemed to have always looked like they do.

They're on the small and scraggy side. And I said not "in the best condition". I didn't say anything about "good".

Well to let you know she isn't fully grown and they've always appeared like that. But thanks for letting me know
