Mailing Lists and Forums

The Internet has a number of newsgroups and web forums that deal with salamanders and newts. Here is a list of them.

  • Caudata.org's Discussion Forum: Our own forum. We're confident you won't find better English language forums online for captive caudata enthusiasts.
  • The Axolotl Mailing List: Primarily for beginners, this list is well worth joining if you're interested in axolotls and new to these animals.
  • The Newt and Salamander Forum on Kingsnake.com is one of the busiest web boards around. Although most of the posts are very basic, occasionally there are very interesting points made.
  • UK Salamanders A new forum on salamanders in the UK. [Added 28-Apr-2006]
  • The Newts and Salamanders Mailing List: A mailing list for beginners.
  • Ambystoma-board.de: The most active german forum on Axolotls and Tigersalamanders [Added 30-Dec-2007].
  • rec.pets.herp is a popular newsgroup. Although it mostly discusses reptiles, every day or two there are postings about newts and salamanders. It does tend to get spammy sometimes though. The people on the group are mainly beginners, but there are some more advanced enthusiasts too.
  • sci.bio.herp is a more sedate newsgroup. There are regular postings, and these tend to be more evenly spread between the reptiles and amphibians. The postings seem to be more professional and accurate.
  • bionet.organisms.urodeles is the only newsgroup on the internet specifically for salamanders and newts. It has been very quiet in the last few years, but used to have a healthy number of messages. Its parent web site, www.bio.net is quite popular and has all previous years' messages archived. It also has online journals which are worth a look. Indiana University have a good navigable archive of all of the messages on this newsgroup since 1994 located here.
  • uk.rec.pets.misc deals with reptiles, amphibians and small pets in the UK.
