Hello Group!
I have owned axolotls for about 15 years, starting when I was teaching high school biology. We hatched babies in class and followed their development under a microscope. I got lots of students excited about axolotls and even gave some babies away to them (with parental knowledge and approval). Now retired, I still have two girls, Saffron (orange) and Valentine (white) and recently lost my male, Mario (wild type) last summer. I am a huge fan of axies and find them incredibly easy to care for and quite personable. Much easier than mud skippers that I also had. I live in western Massachusetts.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
