Hello!

Probably most of you already know what happened.. but short story, my lotl got to the vet after that he got medicine and he can’t move his legs and all that. Ok so. Yesterday we had to force-feed him, wich he only ate a bit of. So we tried again today, but he won’t eat anything. He closes his mouthy every time we try to give him food and when we finally gave him food, he spit it out… Please help.

Are there any tricks of how to trick them into eating? Or do we have to keep on trying to force-feed?

will he eat any other food when placed in front of him?
sometimes axolotls are stubborn and won't eat until it is dark.

Well, we tried putting some cut up worms in front of him, he did look at it but he did not eat it. The thing is whenever I try to feed him in the dark he’s either sleeping… or just not answering 😅

try bloodworm it seems to be an axolotl favourite, feed at night then clean up in the morning.
they do the majority of moving and hunting at night, being ambush predators they are mostly nocturnal, poor eyesight, excellent sense of smell and can detect electrical body movement in the water.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
