Hello!

My name is Nikki. I'm going to be getting some axolotls for my daughter's and found this site while researching. This is going to come in so handy! I've never owned an amphibian before. Only birds, mammals and reptiles so I'm a bit nervous but am ready to make the plunge! One big question my older daughter has is are axlotls playful at all? She's not talking cat and dog level but my beardy used to show off and would dance for her. She's trying to keep her expectations reasonable and trying to figure if tbis is going to be more of an pretty to view pet or can she actually get it to bond with her.

Welcome! This website is such a great resource! Axies are more of a viewing pet. Depending on their personality some like to follow people outside of the tank but they're not one you can hold or pat. I'm not sure how old your daughters are but if you do get an axie it could be a great way to teach them to respect aquatic animals, and that they can bond without having to touch them :)
Good luck!
