Here is my newly finished hide. I used a 100% silicone with no mold/mildew inhibitors that I purchased at Lowe's. I recently got some aquarium sealant from PetSmart for another project and now I am wondering if I should cover my hide with a layer of this sealant as well. Is that overkill or is it a good idea?

It won't hurt if you do it, but it's probably not necessary. I myself worry about things like that, but as long as everything was cleaned well before you put it together and the silicone has cured 24 to 48 hours (I like to wait longer, because I worry) then it should be fine as is.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
