I will be getting my own axolotl soon and are starting tank setup. I don't want sand or gravel, but I do want to give them some grip. So I was wondering if anyone knew of some sort of mat I can put on the floor for grip. Like rubber or something. If anyone knows of something like this please tell me. Thanks!

You can use unglazed tile. But your water should be slow-moving enough for the axolotl to be able to grip the bottom of the tank regardless. If he's slipping, you have too much current.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
