Hi everybody,
I haven't posted in a very long time. I was pretty regular for a while but tragedy struck.
One of my axolotls, Murphy, randomly past away last year.
It took me a very long time to get over it.
She was literally fine one day and gone the next. That morning she ate, was happily swimming. Not even floating. I came home and she was still and wouldnt move and the water was murky.
I took a water sample; tested it; and it was still within safe parameters.
I put her aside to see if she was just deeply sleeping. No such luck.
I was so deeply saddened that i stopped posting. I'm back now though.
Heres to happy healthy lotls,
Ariel

Sorry for your lost, it's never easy. I'm glad to see you're from Oahu?
Do you feed your axie earthworms? Where do you get them?

When I do feed earthworms, I get them from Koolau farmers :)

The only thing is that the worms are expensive. I tend to feed them Hikari carnivore pellets as a staple, and supplement their diet with treats (brineshrimps and blood worms).

They sure were! $20 for 1 ounce ?
I set up a worm bin since the bag had so many baby worms in it, never thought I'd be doing composting to raise worms LOL gotta keep the baby happy ?

I have been usng Ken's Fish Earthworm Sticks along with bloodworms...found the sticks at Kalihi Pet Center. They were cheaper than Hikari volume wise, if you ever want to try some I'd be happy to share! Thinking about ordering a bunch directly from Ken's Fish if I can find others who are interested.

pic of the sticks...

Woah! I might need to get some of those. No need to share though. I wish I had room to compost so I could get worms. My babies could use some variety.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
