Question: Unhappy Axolotl, fimbriae has slowly disappeared

My 10 year old axolotl's fimbriae has slowly disappeared since installing a chiller unit. I use a fluval external filter with spray bar and a DD-750 chiller unit also on a spray bar. Both spray bars are directed at the back of the tank. There is no plant movement but I must be missing something as my axolotl is not happy. I'm not sure if I have the correct set up?

can't you run the chiller attached to the external filtration?

connect the filter outlet pipe to the chiller inlet, this means that you only use one spray bar and one water inlet, it also means that the water is filtered before going through the chiller.
