I have just recently noticed some white fungus growing on my axolotls gills... I was looking for some treatments to get rid of this fungus. I have tried salt baths but I'm not sure that it is working. I have read about Mercurochrome being a safe fungal treatment for axolotls. I wanted to know if this was true (I don't want to put my axie in danger by using it) and if it is safe, what is the process of using it (how much should I use... etc.). Does anyone know of this treatment that could give me some advice about it? I really just want my axie to be healthy again. :(

Harsh chemical treatments should be a last resort, check the sticky on fungus for good treatments.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
