Are you sure it's not just their internal organs. One of mine seemed to have its heart almost in its head as a baby but is now a hefty Juvie

It could be the heart. You can see it especially if you flip them on their backs right about where you could say their neck is - between the two sets of gills. If you watch it closely you can even see the heart bumping and blood moving. There's a nice picture somewhere on axolotl.org where you can see some of the internal organs drawn on a picture of an axolotl.

Ok then. It must be their heart because it's been like 2 weeks with no deaths.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
