I have two axolotls and they've been eating stones in the tank ..., my bro works at granite shop and brings home beautiful granite pieces ,. These would be stunning in the tank but I don't know how it would affect the water chemistry ?? So does any one know how granite will affect aquarium water?? Thank you

You shouldn't place any rocks that the axolotl can eat in the tank, as it can lead to impaction and death. I would remove any more stones you have in the rock that aren't the size of your fist or bigger.

If you could get the granite in slabs you could place them on the bottom, you would just have to remove them weekly or something to give them a light scrubbing on some old tank water.

Granite is tank safe, just make sure it doesn't contain a lot of pyrite. -Seth

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
