Outdoor habitat for arboreal salamanders out of fence boards?

I live in n. Ca, I have many arboreal and slender salamanders and live I the heart of a medium sized city, Santa Rosa, where these critters seem to love fence boards. I am a carpenter and save old material, where arboreals can be found abundantly. The question I pose is: is there any salamander apartment plans? Ideal spacing between boards? They love stacks of old wood! I would love to provide permanent structures ideally smaller than a pile of fence boards but out of same material...

My experience is most salamanders want to be under debris or in holes in the ground and prefer semi-shady to quite shady conditions, depending on the species and elevation. Large rocks make great hides because they hold in moisture and are too large to be uncovered by most predators.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
