Today I've noticed that my usually very active juvenile albino axolotl is very very lazy and isn't moving around very much, her gills are also faded to almost the colour of her body . Please help, I'm really worried --- is she sick or is this normal :(

The gills can fade in color when axolotls are resting. They usually get pinky red when eating or otherwise active. Just to be safe, I would check the water parameters with a good liquid test kit like API Master Test Kit. Is your axolotl still eating good?

My Axolotl seems to be eating fine, she still isn't anywhere near as active as usual but the colour has returned to her gills. I've tested the water and all is good as well. She seems to be doing ok now anyway :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
