I see that terra cotta pots are safe for hides. Can I assume that any items made with terra cotta clay and fired in a kiln would also be safe? What about food safe glazes? I'm thinking it would be fun to makes things myself. I wouldn't have to use glaze but it would sure make it look nice, if it was safe.

*food safe glazes can go into the dishwasher/oven and aren't supposed to leech, they also don't "flake"

I would expect that any food-safe pottery is probably safe for axolotls, as long as it is too big to eat and doesn't have rough edges. Hopefully, if there is a class of food safe pottery that isn't axolotl safe, someone will know of it and speak up.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
