Hi there, I'm Esther from New Zealand. I have just found myself in the surprise possession of a mature female white Axolotl in need of a good home. Reading up on information frantically here. Have already started a thread elsewhere to ask questions and am learning heaps. I think we are on the right track to make it work, she seems happy anyway and I'm hoping we can enjoy her for some time to come (she may be as old as 14)
I'm a mum of 3 grown kids, dairy farmer and homeopath and our family is completely in love with all things animal. Axolotls are new to us however. So this is exciting!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
