Hey guys I’m new here!!!!!! My name’s Jello, I’m a registered veterinary technician with an interest in working with exotic animals like reptiles, amphibians, birds and wildlife. I’ve had a particular interest in axolotls for the last 3 years but I haven't actually owned one until about a week ago! She's a leucistic named Coco Chanel. My parents never let me have any pets (other than a dog) growing up haha so I'm pretty new to everything. I’m planning on getting a couple axolotl eggs as well and raising those – I already have a tiny lil tank set up for that. One of the veterinarians I work with sees axolotls so I have a place to take her if she ever gets sick. I also have a dog named Zelda and 2 cats named Bridgette & Toad.

I'm gonna go ahead and post in the axolotl forums to show what my tank setup is like and see if I'm doing everything right for little Chanel.

I've attached pictures of my kids. Enjoy!!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
