Hikaru died sometime in the night. Thanks everyone, especially Laura for your generous support.

Strangely, it seemed to be my putting her back in her tank that had a swift adverse affect. Literally she went from slow but well an truely alive to a very very sick little animal.
She sank like a stone in the tank and couldn't swim.

This morning she was gone. I did notice that she seemed to have bled from her gills a little.

Can axlotls get the bends?

I am so sorry to hear that. You tried your best and didn't give up on her.

I haven't hear of the bends in axolotls, but it does make me wonder if there is something similar.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
