I posted about this juvenile in the sick axies section, but I wanted to ask in the general forum if his markings are as cool as I think they are. He is just a non-GFP leucy, but he has a dark stripe down his back, a lot on his face, and even some on his chin and throat. My others only got their spots when they were older- does this mean he will be very "dirty" when he gets older? Will these colors fade, darken, or stay the same? Just curious, he is the only one I have kept from a clutch of eggs so far, and it was due to his color specifically. Thanks!

He's a cutie! I prefer to call them "freckled" instead of dirty leucistics, but that's just me. ;) In my limited experience, the freckles on a few of our hatchling leucistics lightened and spread out over time rather than darkening. I'd be interested in seeing his progress to find out what happens with his markings.

I am interested, too. He is a darling, growing like crazy. I am fine with whatever he ends up looking like, but I think he looks cool. :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
