My name is Bre and I own 2 axolotls. I find them to be very interesting and unique creatures. I am from Washington state and have lived here all my life. My boyfriend and I got our first axolotl about 6 months ago and she was a leucistic baby/juvenile. She was about 3 inches long and now she is around 7 inches long. We have her in a 55 gallon tank. Since I have become aware of axolotls, I have always wanted a melanoid. After about a month of searching, we finally got our melanoid baby. It is about 1.5 - 2 inches long. It is so cute! Anyways, I love axolotls and will definitely be using this website/forums for tips and info on them!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
