A friend gave me a few eggs to raise and this little guy has me stumped on his color. I dont see any eyes. He has color down the middle, but not along the sides. I included a picture of him with one of his siblings (who hatched a few days before him so is bigger).

Do albinos born to colored parents(recessive carriers) have some color and then gradually lose it?

Very interesting! No ideas, but I'm curious what other people have to say...

Yes, an albino born to a pigmented mother will have pigment in the egg from the mothers cells. It will lose the pigment as it grows. Looks albino to me, as the eyes have no pigment.

Some of my hatchings are the same, born from a wildtype girl and golden albino male. Thought it was pretty neat.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
