Hi! I just got my first axolotl. I work at PetSmart and I wanted an animal I didn't see every day already so I picked the axolotl as my next pet. While researching how to take care of them before I purchased mine I found a lot of information on this website so naturally I joined after getting one. Im excited for the new adventures of axolotl ownership the only problem Im having right now is I cant think of a name for it, if you have any suggestions feel free to send them my way!!
Thanks,
LazerLacey

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Glad to hear you did your research before buying :)
Names, hmm, how about Chris, that way it will work weather it is a boy or girl?

Oh, and, by the way, caudates are very addictive. Once you have one, you just can't stop...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
